"Bedside manner"

About: Salford Royal

Whilst I completely understand there is a need to understand a patient’s history and circumstances, I feel that the way in which questions are asked could be better considered. In discussing risks of pregnancy due to medication in a recent appointment (to which I have confirmed this is not applicable to me consistently at every appointment over 10 years) I have been asked why followed by ‘are you sterile? Are you in a relationship?’ I could be with an infertile partner, previously experienced sexual abuse, have had several miscarriages - for any number of reasons the manner in which this line of questioning took could have been a trigger. Please be considerate in how questions are asked to people.
