I went for my first mammogram today in Elgin. The nurse who greeted me was really nice and had a very caring nature.
I sat in the cubicle ready to go in when a staff member appeared at the door of the screening room and said 'what's your name?'. No greeting or coming over to me to ask who I was - just a shout from the doorway.
When she asked me the questions before the scan, she sounded bored and rushed which made me feel like just a number. During the scan I tried to follow her instructions as best I could but I felt manhandled and that she was rough with me. I understand the breast has to be positioned correctly but goodness me she was not gentle.
I was very glad when all 4 pictures had been taken and I got dressed again in the cubicle. When I came out, the staff member who had scanned me was just sitting on a chair chatting with the another member of staff and didn't ask if I was ok - again I felt like I was just a number.
I feel this person should have some training in patient care, learn not to rush the positioning of the breasts, and be more gentle overall.
