"Exemplary Care at the QE Hospital"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

This is to thank everyone at the QE who provided a thoroughly caring, effective and and efficient service when I attended after I slipped and injured my wrist.

On 23rd December at about 5pm I walked into A&E having suffered what turned out to be a broken wrist. I was expecting to have a longish wait for treatment, but by soon after 8pm I was able to leave, with my fracture fully stabilised and the pain relieved. Everyone who dealt with me during those three hours, and on subsequent visits connected with my ongoing treatment, has been highly professional, attentive and understanding.

I would like to thank especially:

• The practitioner at the Urgent Treatment Centre, who explained the nature of my injury and organised the management of my treatment throughout (…and who skilfully removed my, by then, rather tightly fitting wedding ring from the injured hand, making certain I took care of it)

• The orthopaedic doctor who, with the support of the practitioner and a nurse, re-positioned, set and plastered my fracture and explained clearly how the injury and its initial treatment would be assessed the following morning, and what the options might then be.

Thank you all. I’m very grateful for what's being done at the QE to support my recovery. I will be making a donation to your charity, QE Charitable Funds.
