"ED experience"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was accompanying my friend who is palliative, has multiple issues including a recent leg amputation and a care plan to have someone with them. I appreciate that this is generally restricted at the moment and as I work in the hospital I understand why, but I have accompanied her on multiple occasions in the last 2 years. If I had been taken to one side and been spoken to in a respectful manner I would not be taking issue. Instead I was very publicly berated by a doctor who told me my presence was redundant, I was of no use and the patient passport was just a whim of the patient. I was then very rudely escorted out with the doctor still berating me. I was at no point abusive and just tried to explain how my friend needs the support of someone due to prior experiences and fear.

Dear CB12,

Thank you for raising your concern with me. I am sorry you were spoken to in such an unprofessional manner by a member of our team. You have raised a valid point, and I will ensure that all members of the team here in ED are reminded on the importance of kind and compassionate communication with all. Thank you for taking the time to raise this point to me - this feedback is a powerful tool for us to be able to enact change within the team.
