I have been complaining about painful heavy periods and I finally received a letter from the hospital for my appointment. I was expecting this appointment to be an initial scan and discussion with the consultant. I was completely unprepared for the possibility that this would turn into a full STD panel and uterine biopsy. I left in shock, bleeding and in a lot of pain. Whilst I understand these procedures are necessary, I feel that patients should be warned well in advance. Documentation for a biopsy indicates that ibuprofen should be taken an hour before the procedure. I had no idea it was going to happen and therefore did not. The nurses were kind and I could deal with the 35 minute wait, but to have to undergo an invasive highly personal experience without any preparation is unacceptable and let's the whole team down.
