I have been having issues with my child's weight for a long time since being diagnosed with a milk allergy. My health visitor came to visit at one point as I phoned up worried about their weight due to taking only 1oz per feed at 3 months old - their weight gain was only 6oz in 3 weeks. I had also been tearful most days. I was advised to use self weigh and let them know, which I did.
I phoned the call centre and they left a message to say my child had only gained 2oz in a week. The centre informed me that I would get a call back that day or the next day. That never happened, so I continued to weigh them weekly. Then we hit more issues around feeds, again no support from GP. It must have been every week as taking 15oz milk at 5 1/2 months old. They wouldn’t change milk even though my child's skin is still flaring up.
I asked for a dietician referral which wasn't going to be until 8th February which I feel is ridiculous! I paid for a private dietician who asked the GP to prescribe amino acid milk. My child has not been feeding well for 3 weeks has been weighed by paediatricians at an appointment and has gained 9oz in 3 weeks. I’m just deflated by lack of support especially when I've been suffering with my own mental health and even discussed this several times with the health visitor team.
I had to ask for medication from the GP. Myself and my child have been let down. If it wasn’t for the support from my paediatrician I feel like I would have lost it by now. I think when the health visitor team get messages through System One regarding patients they need to respond in 24 hours and not ignore the 4 messages left by the call centre team. Also if they haven’t replied why aren’t other professionals above them making sure these messages are replied to… it’s called team work.
