"Unfalteringly kind staff"

About: Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73) / Early Pregnancy Assessment Service The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage just before Christmas and my partner and I had to visit EPU several times over the festive period.

When you receive devastating news it’s hard to imagine how anything can make things better, but every single member of staff we met were unfalteringly kind, compassionate and patient. At times it was obvious the department was extremely busy and under a lot of pressure, but the quality of care and the humanity they brought to their jobs was incredible.

Having previously felt let down by other maternity services, I know how easy it can be for professionals under pressure to lose their sense of humanity and become impatient and dismissive when patients are at their most vulnerable. Other departments could learn a lot from EPU.

Dear earthez36,

Thanks you so much for posting such a lovely response regarding the staffs compassion following your miscarriage. I wish to offer you my condolences and appreciate you taking the time to do this through what I appreciate must me a difficult period for you.

Within the EPAS department the staff are acutely aware that every women's experience is unique and it is fundamental that everyone is listened too and treated with compassion. I will be delighted to share this with the EPAS staff as I know that this will mean such a lot to them. It has been busy over the holiday period and I am glad to hear that this was your experience when attending the service as it should be for everyone.

I am disappointed to learn that you felt previously let down when accessing maternity services previously and would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail if you would find this to be of any benefit. My direct telephone number is 0141 201 3336,

With thanks,

Vicki Mazzoni
