My mum got admitted to Wishaw General at the end of December with a fractured vertebrae. She is 83 and suffers from dementia although thankfully not too bad. After A & E she was transferred to the Emergency care ward.
I got to see her the following day and the ward was freezing. Both windows open. It's not a covid ward and all 4 patients in the room were practically shivering. All ladies in their 80's. She was then transferred to ward 4 whereby her phone charger and toiletries got lost somewhere along the corridor. When she asked a staff member if they could look for it she was told they didn't have time. She also asked if someone could check her bag for a lip salve (also missing) she was told they weren't allowed.
Two days later I was told the ward was now closed, not because of covid but because they had a 'few' extra admissions and couldn't accommodate a 2 metre distance. As you need to book a time for visiting and there is still only 4 patients in the room, I don't understand this. My mum has also had a catheter fitted which I have asked to be removed as she is not incontinent but to date this request has been ignored and I feel its just to save the staff from giving her assistance going to the toilet.
Nobody has tried to help or assist my mum to walk and I feel there is a total lack of empathy or care in this ward . My mum actually said to me on the phone tonight she just wants to die now. I feel heartbroken and helpless that my mum, an 83 year old woman with a fractured vertebrae has been basically left to it. There is no reason this ward should be shut to visitors and somebody should be made answer to the reasons given. And not lie about it...I find this disgusting
"My mums care...or lack of it"
