"Brilliant treatment for my child"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Blossom Ward (Paediatrics)

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

My child is in Craigavon Area Hospital at the moment and suffering from dehydration as they are unable to eat and drink much.Following a lot of scans to see what the problem was they were able to confirm that it was appendicitis. The doctor was amazing as he was able to explain to me what this was and what the treatment process was going to look like. My child had to go into surgery and I feel this is a scary moment in any mothers life having to put your child through this, but it had to be done for him to get better.

The whole time I felt so nervous and anxious but there was one nurse who was so lovely and kind as she came over to me and comforted me about the whole situation. I forget her name but she was so down to earth. She saw that I hadn’t eaten much all day and brought me down some tea, sandwiches and biscuits which was such a lovely gesture and lifted my spirits a bit.

I have never been so glad to see my child as thankfully the surgery went brilliantly, so he is just in recovery mode at the moment. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors and nurses so much for what they have done, this is very much appreciated and will never be forgotten!

Thank you for letting us know how things have been for you and your child in Blossom. It certainly sounds as if he was very unwell due to his appendicitis and I'm glad that his surgery went so well. It can be a very frightening when parents have a sick child and I'm pleased that the surgeon was able to explain things for you and the nurses were able to look after your needs as well.

Being in hospital is not the best start to the New Year, but at least he is doing well now and hopefully it will not be too long before he's back to his normal self.

David
