"Opthamology"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I required a cataract operation and as I was barely able to see out of my right eye I was getting desperate.

After arriving at ward 25 I found ALL members of staff pleasant and helpful.  After a short wait I was taken to the operating area and introduced to the theatre nurse who was excellent and soon put me in the picture as to what would happen.   I then met with Dr Gillan who explained the operation in detail which put me at ease.   During the operation Dr. Gillan kept me informed at all times as to what he was doing and I appreciated this.

Since coming home I have noticed a great difference with a daily improvement which has left me without needing to wear glasses except when reading very small print.  I found the whole procedure was very relaxing and couln't be better.  My thanks to all staff of ward 25 and especially to Dr. Gillan and his assistant to whom I am eternally grateful.

Dear Bruno33,

I am glad to hear that your operation has been a success and that your eyesight is much improved. I shall share your feedback about the theatre nurse with the team, and make sure they know that keeping you informed and aware of what was going to happen helped to make this a good experience for you.

I hope you continue to recover well and stay safe

Gillian Birrell

Senior Nurse, Theatres and Anaesthesia
