It was arranged for me to be admitted last week, as I was to be induced due to my baby having reduced movement. The following day, I was examined after having received pessaries, and informed I was 2cm dilated. Following this, I have had no nursing intervention since and it is now evening, a few days later. I have been left sitting in a room looking at 4 walls for 4 days now. The only interaction I have is my partner visiting at his allocated times or when staff hook me up to CTG every 6 hours. I have found this whole experience as a first time mother very distressing and has caused a lot of anxiety. I was informed on my second day after admission, that I was added to the list to transfer to the labour ward, and at this time, days later, I am still waiting to be transferred (after being assured I have been first on the list since yesterday).
Being a qualified nurse, I understand the pressure of work and how busy wards can be, but I find waiting 4 days for treatment totally unacceptable. Nursing staff looking after me have been very supportive and understanding to my frustration, and it hasn’t been easy for them dealing with one very upset patient, who is having a very stressful time, when it should be an exciting time for a first time mum and her partner.
