"I suffer with bad anxiety"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 2 North Respiratory medicine

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I suffer with bad anxiety and at the moment, with our ward having a patient with covid-19, has made me become very anxious and scared.

However the staff that are caring for me have been absolute angels. Since I arrived, they have been so upbeat and positive. With no family or friends coming in, the staff have taken up that role, as they are always there when you need them. They are the most friendly and chatty people you will meet. What makes my day is seeing them come into me. Even though they have a lot of PPE on, you can still see their smiley eyes underneath it all. They know how to make you feel comfortable and at ease with all the madness that is going on, which I thank them for.

It really makes you see what covid is really like, being in this ward. Not only does it affect the patients but also the staff, as it makes their job a lot more difficult. These people have all my respect and I cannot thank them enough.

Good morning

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience within CAH. In relation to visiting, we recognise how difficult it is for patients and families at the minute due to Covid 19 due to the restrictions on visiting. We have introduced a Virtual Visiting Service within the Trust. This new service has been established to try to support families and patients during this time and enables families to stay connected.

I attach below details on how your family/friends can book a visit. Once a virtual visit has been booked our Virtual Visiting Officer then goes along to each patient and set up the call with the virtual visitor using the Trust's iPads. These virtual visits can be with families or friends. Image title

If you would like any further details on this service, please feel free to contact the Virtual Visiting Schedulers for more details and they will explain in detail. Their contact number is 07776516419, 7 days a week 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Kind regards

Mairead Casey
