"Hospital Care"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Elective Overnight Stay Centre/Gynaecology Ward

(as the patient),

On arrival at the hospital Elective Admissions Ward, everything was perfect...staff were attentive & caring & I was made to feel as comfortable as was possible in the circumstances.  I was understandably anxious as I was facing a major operation that morning, one which might have consequences further down the line.  All the staff did what they could to put me at my ease.  All pre-op checks were carried out thoroughly & the procedures were fully explained to me.

The surgeons & anaesthetists did their best to reassure me in theatre.

Follow-up care back in my room was good but, due to staff shortages because of Covid-19, I sometimes felt forgotten about. One particular nurse was not as sympathetic to my situation as they might have been & at times I felt lonely & upset.  I was told to exercise, but no parameters were described, so I kept walking up & down, probably doing too much so soon after the operation.

My consultant was attentive, visiting me on 2 occasions after the procedure & even removing my catheter themselves, rather than having a nurse do so.

Overall, I cannot really find great fault with the experience I had & am truly fortunate & grateful that such an operation could take place at all in the current climate, when so many are waiting for treatment.

Dear poppy50

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on Care Opinion. I am disappointed that the nursing care your received was not consistently delivered throughout your inpatient stay. Please accept my apologies that this did not happen in your case. I will share your feedback with the nursing team so that we can learn from this and strive for compassionate care with good communication for all patients.

I hope you are recovering after your recent surgery and doing well.

Regards

Josephine Matthews
