On arrival at the hospital Elective Admissions Ward, everything was perfect...staff were attentive & caring & I was made to feel as comfortable as was possible in the circumstances. I was understandably anxious as I was facing a major operation that morning, one which might have consequences further down the line. All the staff did what they could to put me at my ease. All pre-op checks were carried out thoroughly & the procedures were fully explained to me.
The surgeons & anaesthetists did their best to reassure me in theatre.
Follow-up care back in my room was good but, due to staff shortages because of Covid-19, I sometimes felt forgotten about. One particular nurse was not as sympathetic to my situation as they might have been & at times I felt lonely & upset. I was told to exercise, but no parameters were described, so I kept walking up & down, probably doing too much so soon after the operation.
My consultant was attentive, visiting me on 2 occasions after the procedure & even removing my catheter themselves, rather than having a nurse do so.
Overall, I cannot really find great fault with the experience I had & am truly fortunate & grateful that such an operation could take place at all in the current climate, when so many are waiting for treatment.
