About: Highly Specialist Services / Gender Identity Service (GIS)

(as the patient),

About 3 maybe a little longer I was referred to the gender clinic by my gp I was then put on a waiting list which took longer than I'd have liked but with the pandemic and everything I could understand it would cause more delay but hung in there I had a few moments were I couldn't cope an had to ask for some support off my care workers I had and they got me through it my first appointment was by video wich was long but was OK and soon after I got my second appointment wich then I had to stop smoking wich delayed any hormones so had 3 months to quit before I seen him again I referred myself to a stop smoking service an succeed at quitting I've now had hormones 3 an a quarter months and doing speach therapy which the tutor is lovely to do the voice therapy with I had a review on my hormones and up to yet all the staff have been lovely and amazing

Hi Tia

Thank you for your feedback, at Porterbrook we welcome all feedback as it helps us to shape our services for all our clients.

Unfortunately, we are unable to comment on individual cases through Care Opinion. However, we would like to thank you so much for your lovely comment.

My colleagues and myself really do appreciate all feedback, it was lovely to hear that your journey so far has been positive, we look forward to providing you with a high level of care on your journey.

I would just like to comment on the point you made about your initial wait and reassure other people who may be reading this, that we appreciate the waiting times are too long for everyone, we are working with our commissioners NHS England to do all we can to bring the waiting times down.

The assessment process has lots of questions to get to know you and what you would like to achieve whilst on your journey with us. But we also appreciate it can be a very daunting process for people to go through, we will encourage anyone to ask for a break part way through if you need one.
