I accompanied my wife to A&E after GP advised her to attend as she had AF & associated worrying symptoms. She was very anxious & wanted me to help communicate with staff so she didn’t forget to mention the various issues she had, I was refused permission to sit with her despite her anxiety due to ‘Corvid’ I could have had a test or evidenced I’d had one etc but this was not ‘acceptable’
After working in the NHS for many years as DNS etc & more recently as an advisor to Regulators I found the lack of communication, consideration & practical flexibility poor. You are met at the entrance by a security guy with instructions I understand all to well that staff are stretched etc etc but adding to a patient’s anxiety unnecessarily doesn’t help
