In August I noticed blood in my poo and made an appointment with my G.P. and thought it could be piles. I was told to wait if it was no better in the next 14 days then I needed to go back to the G.P. And he would refer me to the hospital. I did go back to my G.P. and I was told I would get an appointment within 14 days which I did and in September I had a colonoscopy. A growth was found in my colon and was a suspected cancer growth. I had a scan a few days later. An appointment was then made to see a consultant for a face to face meeting. I saw Mr Kelkar and he confirmed that the growth needed to be removed and went through the procedure very simply so I could understand what was going to happen. During this meeting he suggested a date in October to have the operation which I agreed to.
I was admitted early morning on the day of my operation which went well. I was on Geddington ward for 6 days.
I was treated with the utmost respect by Mr Kelkar and his team and all the hospital staff at all times. I cannot praise the care I received enough from the hospital staff.
If there was one thing I would suggest that is that after the surgery the correct diet sheets are given out as on the second day after surgery I had to ask for the correct menu ordering sheet.
I would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone involved in my stay.
I have been very fortunate that I do not need any further treatment i.e. no chemotherapy or radiotherapy for which I am very grateful.
Once again thank you.
