"Felt not listened to in A&E"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I brought my son to A&E three times due to his cough and high temperature. We were sent away two times before finally being admitted on the third.

The doctors were all very good and all, however, I told the doctor he wasn't drinking properly. I feel that he should have been admitted earlier and so found being told to go home to not be very useful. All the nurses were incredibly friendly. I just felt that the doctor who I saw on the first two occasions just was not listening and taking in what I was saying.

Up on the ward it has been really great. The staff have been amazing and really lovely and the consultant was very thorough up on the ward. Overall, it has been a good experience up here. I cannot think of anything that needs improved on the ward itself.

Good morning.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion.

We apologise that you felt the Doctor was not listening to you on your first 2 visits. However our clinical team are trained to listen to parents of children and it forms an important part of their overall assessment. When they discharge a child they would always give advice to return if things were not improving.

We hope your son is recovering well.

Best wishes

Paul Smyth
