"No postnatal check because i had a baby!? "

About: Yarm Medical Practice

Having booked an appointment for my newborn and myself to receive our six week postnatal check (which was difficult to book due to thhe rudee reception staff) i was shocked to learn that i could not have my check completed because loan behold, the baby was with me. I have since tried to rebook the appointment, my daughter is now 11 months old and i still have not managed to get the six week check! I have crippling stomache pains and have not yet managed to have a phone appointment or see a GP in person. Surely all new mums should receive this check. I understand the circumstances are difficult at the moment but the rude and unhelpful reception staff have reduced me to tears. The pain has caused me stress and my mental wellbeing has suffered. So much for supporting new mums. Having tried to switch GPs to local ones with a better reputation, they're all full so I'm stuck trying to get help from a surgery who uses the pandemic as an excuse for their lax work and poor attitude.

We are sorry that you are unhappy with the service you have received from us however without knowing further details we are unable to look into this further. We are not aware of local practices having 'closed lists' therefore if you are in their catchment area they cannot refuse. We have continued throughout the pandemic to provide post natal checks for ladies and babies as it is required for baby immunisations so we are not sure how this has happened and would appreciate further information
