I had an assessment with a really nice clinician, where i explained my intense derealisation, feelings of unreality and panic attacks. I was referred to a counselling charity for young people which deals with general anxiety and low mood. I felt totally invalidated by this and it led me to seek no further help and suffer alone as my feeling of ‘being crazy’ was amplified. I understand CBT may not have been the best approach but I should have been referred to the Access Team or a clinical psychologist, as walking around in a state of fear and panic 24/7 that reality is about to disintegrate is not really a matter for a youth counselling service. I was left feeling dejected and like appropriate help was impossible to find
