"Mentalization Based Treatment introduction group"

About: Community Forensic Services / Nottinghamshire MBT Service

(as a service user),

I have recently ended the MBTi group, the introduction group before accessing longer term MBT Therapy.

I found the discussions by facilitators insightful and the handouts are a really good reference point to get back to. Homework being given in a range of styles (reading, podcasts, video etc.) has given variety to my learning and understanding of the sessions focal point.

I am aware some people got distracted/dis-engaged which left some parts of the sessions less of a group activity and felt more of an opportunity for them to project larger issues. I'm aware this is down to the individual and I felt facilitators were able to manage this and bring discussions back to the topic.

I found the group facilitators compassionate and understanding. I have enjoyed the sessions and what I have learnt, even if sometimes it has caused emotional difficulties afterwards.

Thank you for posting this feedback, your feedback is so timely as we are in the process of undertaking a review of the MBTi programme so I will ensure this feedback is shared with the team to support discussions and help in planning any changes.

I am pleased you found the different ways of sharing information/themes of the sessions; we have tried to use and include a range of platforms to help with supporting the learning styles of a range of people. Technology has been a bit of an issue with this at times but hopefully as we all get more skilled at this it will become a bit easier!

The MBTi group is often people’s first experience of being in group and so it does take skill for the facilitator to support people adapt to this, to bring them back to the theme/focus of the session whilst also making sure people feel heard. It sounds like the facilitators were able to manage this and I’m pleased you found the facilitators were compassionate and understanding. I will make sure this feedback is shared with the team.

Best wishes, Louisa Hagan
