I phoned about 2pm to book an appointment for a congested chest. As this is a symptom connected to COVID 19 the doctor agreed an appointment for 5ish. After he examined and tested me he ruled out COVID and diagnosed a heart complaint because of a fast heart rate. He arranged for an ambulance to take me to St George's A&E. This took nearly 2 hours to arrive, but I was at A&E by 8ish. The paramedics were very friendly and efficient and the nurses and doctors in A&E were the same. I spent nearly 14 hours in A&E attached to monitors and a blood pressure cuff. A few hours before I was moved to Richmond ward I was connected to an oxygen supply. All the time the nurses and doctors were friendly and attentive, with one even spending several minutes obtaining a charger and lead for my mobile. My final move was to Charles Pumphrey ward, which started with a transfusion of magnesium in the middle of the night. During my time in Charles Pumphrey I got friendly with a couple of patients and exchanged phone numbers. I was well fed with breakfast and 2 main meals, (though I didn't always get what I asked for). While here I underwent an angiogram and spoke with several doctors who were all friendly and informative. All the nurses were friendly and hard working. I was particularly impressed with how they dealt with a couple of difficult old infirm patients who objected to being handled. One in particular got quite physical. I couldn't see anything, but could the hear the commotion and heard a nurse say "Let go" and "He scratched me." While this nurse was taking my blood pressure a few days later I mentioned this to her, but she made no complaint, beyond saying another nurse was also scratched. Part of the job? Can't say my stay was wonderfull as I was ill, but the doctors and nurses certainly made it bearable. Cant praise them enough. I would also like to praise the swift and decisive action of Tooting South Medical Centre.
"Great practice"
