"Support for neck lumps"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

(as a service user),

I was recently referred to the Maxillo-facial unit due to some lumps on my neck which presented like lymphoma. My GP had given me information that caused a lot of anxiety and I was really concerned about worst case scenarios. Mr Lowe and the team were absolutely brilliant though and had a calm, reassuring and professional manner throughout my multiple appointments. They were fantastic at communicating with me, giving me updates and being clear about next steps including letting me know about delays to test results or calling to check in on me once I'd been referred elsewhere. I can't fault the medical care and treatment I received for various biopsies needed, especially when I had an operation under local anaesthetic. I felt I was in very good hands throughout the process and every individual I met was kind, professional and caring. They also took the time to understand my situation, specific concerns and were willing to answer all of my questions. Thankfully my test results proved not to be lymphoma and the team were able to get to the bottom of what was going on and to refer me to the right services for ongoing support. Thanks so much to everyone at the maxillo-facial unit!

Dear taurustp48,

Thank you for sharing your story with us and for the wonderful praise for Mr Lowe and his team. It sounds like the time between seeing the GP and attending your hospital appointment was a worrying one, but it’s good to hear that once you were under the care of maxillofacial unit you felt you were in good hands with the all care and knowledge you needed. Your kind words have been shared with the team and will be a huge morale booster for everyone involved.

Wishing you all the best for the next stage of your journey.

Take care,

Kirsten
