"Refused by A&E following overdose"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I took 15 paracetamol and my GP made me agree to go to A&E, he said if I didn't go to A&E by myself he'd sent an ambulance to take me by force.

A&E refused to let me in because I wasn't capable of speech.

I have permanent damage now since they denied me treatment.

Dear sir or madam,

We are very sorry to hear about your experience. The A&E matron apologises if you did not receive appropriate care and has advised that there are various tools to assist effective communication and translation in the department. Staff will be reminded to utilise these and fully support all patients including those with communication difficulties.

Unfortunately we are not able to look into the circumstances without more details. If you wish to take this matter further and receive a formal response please contact our patient advice liaison service (PALS). They can be contacted on pals.qeht@nhs.net.

kind regards

Patient Experience team
