I have endured two overnight experiences in this unit, one in 2010
and another October 2021. “ Nothing “ has changed in the ward (women’s).
Sleep is IMPOSSIBLE, it is so noisy and cold all night, banging doors, loud voices,
lights on / off, consultations being performed frequently throughout the night
and some patients in distress, severely disturbing other sick patients who needed rest.
Sadly very sick and mentally ill patients and others, all lumped into a very small claustrophobic, 6 bed ward.
Also there is a total absence of anything to occupy your time...no access to reading material...no opportunity to get anything for yourself. No visitors, No tv, No radio and totally obscured windows, - just the opportunity to stare at the ceiling for hour after hour!
Needless to say after the recent, long, sleepless, noisy, uncomfortable night, my blood pressure was going through the roof.
**The whole assessment setup needs to be made much more patient friendly.
I have to say the staff were efficient, attentive and kindly to all the
sometimes very difficult patients in their care.
