"Flu Vaccine - Unbelievable "

About: Thorpewood Medical Group

After being in the queue for 55 minutes to book my flu vaccination to then reach the front and be told there are no slots available contact your local pharmacy left me disappointed , to say the least, in the surgery. Why was a message not stated at the beginning of the call with the info or on your website where I also visited stating this? As said in the article NHS staff are busy, well that goes for others like myself who have worked tirelessly during this pandemic and can ill afford to waste 1 hour on hold. I am grateful for all the work the NHS does but this leaves me unimpressed with Thorpewood Surgery. Kind Regards

Dear Mr Smith

Initially thank you for having the courage to provide your name. I sincerely apologise for the frustration and problem you encountered trying to secure a Flu Vaccine.

I am sorry for the wait on the phone. Apart from the usual daily demand, we do have the flu clinics and the Covid Vaccine Programme. The Surgery has 11,000 adults of which 10,700 have received their first vaccine and 9,100 their second. Whilst we encourage online links for the Covid, we have still received over 15,000 additional calls to the norm on this programme.

I accept your point on perhaps informing on the Website about the flu vaccines. This year has been unlike others in that the dates we are to receive the vaccinations are not set in stone. Many places experience delay and have had to cancel people after they have made the appointments. It is possible while you waited on the phone is when the appointments ran out.

The Surgery is not allowed to use the same technology to achieve a flue appointment as the link on the text for the Covid Vaccine, I apologise.

Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated. The phone wait and Website items will be raised in the Surgery. The current demand however, may mean we are not able to improve on this in the near future.

My regards.

Andy Cutting

Practice Manager
