"Cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Medical Oncology

(as a service user),

I received a diagnosis of breast cancer on 17th June. I had to travel to Inverclyde Royal (Ward F South) to see an oncologist. I ended up choosing the ward at Inverclyde to receive my 6 chemotherapy treatments.

I can’t praise highly enough the oncology team at Ward F South. Their care, compassion and professionalism was amazing. At one of the worst times of my life they were there to support me and help me through the chemotherapy sessions. I never dreaded attending because the staff made me feel at ease and actually as strange as it sounds we always had a laugh and a chat at my treatment sessions. All the staff from my consultant, nurses, nursing assistant to the reception staff showed they genuinely cared and that meant a lot. What a positive experience.

The ward was extremely busy every time I was there but this did not impact my experience despite the staff being stretched in every direction the care they gave was exceptional.

A special mention to SSN Maureen and Gillian who I saw most sessions and I appreciated their chat and just how at ease they made me feel.

At one session I forgot to lift my blood form for my bloods prior to my next treatment. A phone call to Maureen saw the form arrive the next day in the post but it has a post it note on it saying “take care and we will see you in 3 weeks” simple things like this make the difference. It truly is a fantastic Ward and they will forever have my gratitude.

Dear LogieBear

Thank you so much for getting in touch via Care Opinion. As you have said this was one of the worst times in your life, so it is heartening to read that you felt supported and at ease and that the staff even made you laugh during this difficult time. I agree that the small things, such as a note can make a huge difference to how you feel. The staff are a credit to the NHS.

It will be my pleasure to share your feedback with the staff in Ward F especially Maureen and Gillian.

Take Care

Nicole
