"Diabetes consultant Covid vaccination"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Reproductive Health (Simpson Centre)

(as a service user),

Wow where do I start with my experience. I attended the gestational diabetes clinic, the appointment started off well , but  I felt ended on a very sour note.  I felt the two doctors I seen lectured me about why I should have the Covid vaccine. In my opinion they were using scare tac ticks to do so. I had spoken to my community Midwife previously and she had advised me against it, but now all of a sudden I'm told it’s perfectly safe.  The consultant could have at least waited before I fully closed to door before making his rude comments. I am sick of the feeling of being pushed from pillar to post. Supporting mother’s to be, I don't feel supported. I feel there's a lack of support and feel some of my concerns are dismissed.

I had preeclampsia with my first son and was continually dismissed until late into my pregnancy and ended up in a hypertensive state before my son was delivered. Nearly costing us both our lives and lack of communication is the answer i was given for why it happened. I had to sort my own scan appointment today as the wrong date was given. I was also told I would be having extra observations and scans, however 36 weeks is when it’s been deemed appropriate to check my baby. in my opinion this is disgusting service.

Dear Jo1992

I am very sorry to hear of your poor experiences recently and that you have not felt supported. I understand that you have concerns regarding the attitude of the doctors you met at the Diabetes Clinic, and that you have received conflicting information as to whether you should receive the Covid vaccine. I would like to assure you that this feedback will be shared with the Clinical Management Team of the Diabetes service. If you would like to raise these issues as an official complaint and receive a formal response, please contact the Patient Experience Team by sending an email to feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk. Please provide your name, date of birth, address, contact number and also make reference to this Care Opinion story.

I was also sorry to hear of the difficulties you have had regarding scans and appreciate this will be a worrying time following your previous experience. I will again pass this feedback on to the relevant Clinical Management Team for review. I hope that the appropriate appointments have now been arranged however if you would like these issues looked into further, please make contact with the Patient Experience Team as per details above.

Best wishes

Louise
