"Psychological intervention at The Lighthouse Centre"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Chronic Fatigue/ME

(as the patient),

I was offered psychological intervention as part of a treatment plan for ongoing symptoms of CFS/ME.  I was concerned about the treatment as I know that it can be unpleasant and challenging, but that this is necessary to effect a positive outcome.

I can't speak highly enough about the treatment I have received, it wasn't as harsh as I was expecting and the process was astonishing, and so worth while.  I have been able to re-frame my understanding of traumatic events in childhood and use this new perspective to 'ditch' some very unhelpful ideas about myself and what happened to me. I feel relieved of a lifetime of pain and suffering.  My practitioner, Dr. Cristina, is incredibly skillful in what she does and shows great compassion in a very professional way.  I am indebted to her for how she has helped me.

Dear lepuszc96,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us - please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you on here. I was so pleased to read about your experience of the Lighthouse Centre and that it wasn't as unpleasant as you were expecting it to be. It is inspiring to see how the service has been able to help you re-frame your understanding of events in your childhood and that you now feel relieved of pain and suffering which you have carried with you for a lifetime.

I am responding to you as a member of the Patient and Family Experience team here at the Trust, but I will ensure that the CFS/ME team sees your story and that Dr. Cristina gets a special thank you through our "Learning from Excellence" scheme.

Thank you again for taking the time to share such a true and honest account of your experiences within the department, and I am sure it will go some way in helping others to see the benefits of the service.

Best wishes,

Jess
