"A problem solved by an exceptionally caring professional"

About: Bromley Healthcare / Occupational therapy for adults

(as a relative),

My 90 year old mother was discharged from the PRU hospital in Orpington, Kent around 6 weeks ago.  However she was discharged by the hospital without a manual handling report which was rightly requested by my mum's care company so that they could adhere to the correct manual handling procedures for my mum.

Having tried to contact the correct person at the hospital in order to rectify this - I was continually sent round and round in circles - from the GP to the hospital to the GP to the hospital and nobody would listen to me.  Nobody would take responsibility for this error and I just couldn't get through to anyone who was happy or wanting to help.  The GP blamed the hospital and the hospital blamed the GP.

Time passed, and my mum, as a result has been spending 24/7 in bed when she should have been allowed to be hoisted out of bed into her chair during the day.  Her quality of life has suffered and she has been very depressed about this.

Finally, via a District Nurse recommendation I was given the name of Jenny at Bromley Health Care Adult Occupational Therapy department and I cannot thank Jenny enough.  Jenny genuinely listened to my problem, understood the frustrations that I was experiencing, appreciated the affect that this 'lost' report was having on my mum's quality of life and on my stress levels.  I genuinely felt that she became a champion for my cause and this was of great comfort.  She endeavoured to solve the problem for me; kept in touch; rang me back when she said she was going to; described in detail how she was going to solve the problem; empathised with my frustrations and seemed dedicated to providing a solution no matter what she had to do to achieve this.

The 'lost' report has now been located (it had not been saved to a 'shared' folder) and sent to the correct parties involved:  my mum's quality of life will now improve thanks to Jenny's dedication and persistence in helping to solve this problem.  It was not her job to do so, but she took it upon herself to help.  And what a difference that makes.  Admin and red tape can be extremely frustrating at times and I have never been so frustrated by the lack of understanding by the other people involved in this sorry saga.  Thank you Jenny.  I don't want to be over dramatic, but I will never forget your help and I wanted to convey via this platform what a difference your help has made to my mum's quality of life and my stress levels.  Thank you so much.
