"IV treatment - pleasant stay"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Outpatients

(as the patient),

Doctors, nurses, and HCAs were all friendly and made my stay as pleasant as it can be, and I got better quickly.

I received medication through a cannula, which improved my condition quickly, but my arm is now sore and there is localized redness surrounding the area. When given the medication, it caused pain all times when going into my vein, which I mentioned to staff, but nothing was done. A HCA removed the tube and bag connected to my cannula without wearing gloves (all nurses wore gloves). The cannula was removed by the same HCA who did wear gloves when removing it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, in particular highlighting the varying use of Personal Protective Equipment which includes gloves. To look into your experience more fully would you be able to contact me on my email address with details of the outpatient ward and date of attendance.

I am glad to read that you are feeling better and hope that continues to be the case.

Kind regards

Caty Smith
