"Useless system and GP surgery "

About: Todmorden Group Practice

I was recently admitted to hospital in Blackburn as this is closer to us than the 1 hour trek to Halifax. Due to the lack of structure in the NHS overall my NHS gp surgery is not connected to the hospital so it can see treatment and results. This then means any follow up action requested by the hospital can’t be actioned effectively. Couple that with the almost impossible system of getting through to the surgery at 8am to try and get an appointment, highlights how broken the system is. This latest experience and the fact I do have something wrong which needs my gp practice to at the very least answer the phone and then take some bloods has now left me exhausted and considering private healthcare. I can only assume as it’s impossible to get through to the gp surgery either there just are not enough doctors working at the surgery or the reception staff and their management are incompetent. I would like to think it was not the latter but as the first point of call when your not feeling well it really should be better. The lack of availability just pushes the problem to urgent care and A&E which can’t possibly be right or good. This GP surgery needs to get their act together and change the (not fit for purpose booking system) at the very least. This has been an issue for years nothing to do with COVID-19 so no excuses it doesn’t work. Not getting the right attention from the GP could be a life or death situation, it shouldn’t take years to work out something doesn’t work and change it so it does.
