"More toilets needed on wards"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 3 South

(as the patient),

I was unwell at home and my husband rang 999 but the ambulance wait was too long so my husband drove me to A&E. I was advised I would have to wait over an hour for ambulance to arrive as very busy. I was waiting in A&E for over 6 hours before being seen by a nurse and then had to wait another 4 hours to be seen by Doctor. I was left in limbo in A&E and I was going to leave until girl at reception said I was 2nd in list.

Once I was taken to yellow bay they staff looked after me well and got me a hospital bed until bed is ready.  The staffs in 3 south are good and  I have been kept up to date on my care plan. The only improvement I would make i shaving more toilets or even have toilets cleaned more than 1 hourly. There is a lot of patients using the same toilet and they can be disgusting at times.

Hello Puppisdd34

Thank you for posting regarding your recent hospital experience, I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.

I am sorry to see that sometimes the toilet facilities have been in poor condition. Our staff have increased the frequency of cleaning toilets and wash facilities. I will discuss this with the Domestic Services manager, in order to increase check cleans in between the scheduled clean.

Many thanks

Andrew

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in 3South. I am delighted that you are kept up to date with your plan of care by our staff.

The toileting facilities are routinely cleaned by are domestic staff and I apologize if on occasion the standard has not been satisfactory. Please escalate any further issues identified to ward staff so we can ensure this is rectified as a priority.

Wishing you well in your recovery.

Dear puppisdd34 - further to the responses above, the Trust has recognised that there are issues with our ward environment and have received some funding to make ward changes and increase the number of toilets in Craigavon Hospital. In the meantime toilets are cleaned with increased regularity.

Best wishes
