"The paramedics who attended to my Brother-in-law"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a relative),

My brother in law who is now well into his 80's has stayed remarkably well considering his age even though he is fitted with a pacemaker. Having been a very keen swimmer all of his life has resulted in him having a very strong heart.

He has recently had two nasty growths on his legs, one of them was identified as cancerous. One had healed but the 2nd one was proving more difficult to heal. He was having it dressed twice a week. I had been in close contact with his wife (my sister) due to him not eating or drinking a great deal. She called me on Sunday 3rd October to say he was unsteady on his feet and in bed as she was struggling to deal with his mobility issues. My wife and I attended and shortly after accessing the situation my sister called 999.

The 2 paramedics who attended, Debbie & Jason were absolutely brilliant. His SATS were good but his chest shown signed of crackling (fluid in lungs). Jason removed the dressing from his right leg and there was an immediate stench from the open wound about the size of a 10p piece. In due course he dressed the wound but was obviously concerned about it's condition. Ally's condition deteriorated quite rapidly over the next hour with a pronounced drop in his blood pressure resulting in him being rushed (blue light) to hospital.

When he was admitted it was identified that he was suffering from acute pneumonia. His energy levels were extremely low.  As I write this he is still in hospital but is on the  slow road to recovery according to the hospital staff. I and my family would like to say a major thankyou to Debbie & Jason for their timely and professional actions.
