"My wifes heart attack"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

My wife recently had a heart attack. After phoning 999 I was informed after a few questions that ambulance would be there in approximately 45_50mins but if I could get her to A and E then it would be better. This I did and after initial tests she was rushed to Edinburgh Royal where she had a stent inserted. This no doubt saved her life for which I am grateful.

Thanks to all.

One hopefully constructive criticism would be 3 weeks later she was having similar pains which resulted in another visit to A and E in Larbert at 8.30pm.

She was seen straight away by a tri age nurse who after Ecg results confirmed it was not a heart attack but they needed to do some more tests. Some 6 hours later my wife was informed she would be staying overnight for tests and obs.

Fortunately she was able to come back into the waiting room and tell me to go home and phone next morning for an update.

This is really my point. My wife was able to ask so she could inform me what was happening. Several others were awaiting information of their loved ones which only came to fruition after they eventually asked at the reception.

This was several hours after their loved ones were taken away for examination by a Doctor.

Surely in this day and age we can put in a place a system whereby information could be passed quicker to relatives so they could make the necessary arrangements to go home.

Dear Andy12a

I am sorry to hear of your wife's heart attack and recurrent problems that resulted in her having to come up to the Emergency Department. I would like to apologise for the delay in getting this information to yourself. I do understand how frustrating this can be waiting for long periods and not feeling updated. I wish to thank you for brining this to our attention and give you reassurance we are constantly looking at ways that we can improve the patient journey through our Emergency Department.

Yours sincerely

Donna Clark

Operational Manager.
