"Outstanding care in ward 2C Royal Hospital for Children"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Acute Receiving Unit (Ward 2c)

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was admitted to ward 2c in October. My husband and I were greeted by the on duty nurse Hannah and settled into the ward. Due to the nature of his admission the night was traumatic to say the least with the treatment that had to be administered. Hannah’s care, attention and outstanding bed side manner made what was a horrific night for my son, as well as, us as parents somewhat more bearable. We quickly realised we were in the best hands the NHS could provide and I simply could not leave the ward without mentioning this.

Following onto our 2nd night staff nurse Cat was looking after us was another fantastic asset to the NHS. She was extremely attentive and quickly read into the fact we had just experienced a really traumatising nightmare the night before. She was so reassuring and acted promptly when my son spiked another temperature. She also had super powers at coming into the room at night like a ninja which was greatly appreciated as both my son and I were exhausted.

Staff nurse Avril looked after us on her last couple of days before her retirement she was also very knowledgable. I would also like to mention Maxi the anesthetist who was extremely patient and went above and beyond to let my son relax in her presence by playing with him with the machinery.

Overall the care of all that passed through the ward and crossed our paths were extremely helpful and attentive and my son's first time in hospital for a stay more pleasant in what was a really traumatising time for him. Ward 2c is an extremely efficient, organised and well run ward which is solely credited to the sister and her team.

Dear Chelsea Mc,

Sorry to hear, that due to nature of your son's admission to the hospital and the treatment he required, his admission was traumatic and he had a horrific night, we hope that he is doing a lot better now?

It was lovely hear that despite the fact you had such a lot going on with your son, the nurses in ward 2C were able to make your stay bearable.

We will pass on your thanks to Hannah for her "care and attention, with outstanding bedside manner", during your first night in the ward, I am sure she will be delighted to hear she made such a positive impact on you and your son's stay.

On your second night stay within the ward, it was Cat who was looking after you son, and it was great to hear she was able to reassure and acted promptly when your son required nursing attention, and as you highlighted, showed "super powers at coming into the room at night like a ninja", I am sure she will be thrilled with your comments.

We will also ensure that Avril and Maxi the anaesthetist, will receive your feedback of a positive experience whilst you and your son were in their care, and of the comments you shared "knowledgeable" and "above and beyond".

The SCN's in ward 2C will be delighted with all your comments re the staff in the ward and with the comments regarding the ward itself and will share the positive feedback will all staff in the ward.

Thanks for all you lovely comments and taking the time to post on care opinion regarding you and your son's experience.

Kind Regards

Mandy
