"Receptionist in dire need of interpersonal skills…"

About: Bethesda Medical Centre

I called into the Bethseda surgery today, queued up and asked very politely if I could possibly use their toilet as I was having a bit of an emergency (very embarrassing to have to do this anyway). I wasn't expecting a yes necessarily - even after I'd explained that I suffer from Crohn's disease - but the response from the scowling receptionist was appallingly rude: 'What?! No, you can't! It's not a convenience!' she snapped (and repeated after I explained I have IBD and would not have called in otherwise). I really think this surgery needs to send its staff for some kind of customer service training or else replace that member of staff with someone a bit better equipped to deal with the public. Really disgusting behaviour from someone who should know better. Even if the surgery's policy is to refuse toilet access to someone with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, there is such a thing as doing it COURTEOUSLY. "Sorry, the toilet is for patients' use only" would have bene a perfectly acceptable reply. Maybe she could try it next time?
