A week after my chemo, I became ill with a high temperature. The phoenix unit advised me to attend A&E and they would be ready for me. On my arrival I was immediately taken to a room and various tests started. My first two lots of Iv antibiotics started and I was informed I needed to be admitted and was moved to the assessment unit. The tests and treatment continued until later that night I was moved to B28. I spent 3 nights on the ward until it was deemed I was well enough to be discharged. In all three departments I was treated with dignity, respect and kindness. I was kept informed of results and treatment plan. All the staff I met, doctors, nurses, porters and domestics were a credit to the NHS. They are all very busy and sometimes treated disgustingly by patients (in A&E nurses were being spat at). No matter what was happening nothing was problem for them and all with a smile and pleasant manner. . I must add that the service I have had from the phoenix unit has also been excellent, there is not a side effect they can't help with. From what I have seen over the past few months which at times have been difficult for me, Sunderland Royal is an outstanding hospital and I would highly recommend.
"Outstanding staff and service. "
