"Huge waiting times/ disorganised system"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

Invited for an obstetrics appointment at 08:45- paperwork says the first visit could be a long wait. It appears several other (close to 10) women have been given the same appointment time. 45 minutes in, none of us have been seen/ called and we’re all just sat here waiting for any kind of communication. What a terrible way to treat pregnant women, many of whom look exceptionally uncomfortable. Why call everyone to a generic appointment? Why not run a traditional appointment system? Pregnant women have jobs and responsibilities also and this is a really unacceptable, disorganised way or seeing patients.

We have contacted the Business group who have provided the following response:

This issue has been highlighted with the team and they looking at how they can support improve this going forward. Currently the first appointment is 0845 but midwives are rostered 9-5 pm and also occasionally the Dr’s arrive late to clinic as they often have ward rounds first. The team have a meeting scheduled to discuss ways to improve this and ensure appointments run quicker. Once this has been agreed it will be shared with the whole team and put into place.

If you wish to discuss further, please contact Patient.Experience@stockport.nhs.uk

Kind regards
