"They care for the babies as if they were their own"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Neonatal Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

My son spent 43 days in the neonatal unit in Craigavon. The care he received from when he was admitted to intensive care right up until our departure recently was nothing short of amazing.

The nurses in the unit care for the babies as if they were their own. Not only do they care for the babies but they look after the parents too in what is such a difficult time.

The special touches they do for the parents for example, boards with a story on them written by the babies every day to making cards from the babies for the parents to take home. Things like that that are way above and beyond their job description. Brilliant staff who genuinely care.

Thanks so much to all the staff working there! You are a credit to the NHS.

Thank you dracoqc68 for taking the time to tell us of your experiences in the Craigavon Hospital Neonatal Unit. It was lovely to hear that the staff looked after your son so well and also were able to look after your needs. The message boards are a relatively recent introduction to the Neonatal Unit to improve communication with the parents of our patients to let them know how their baby is doing and I'm pleased that you found them helpful. We know that it can be difficult for parents to be separated from their babies for so long and we try to make it as positive experience as possible.

I wish you and your little boy all the best, David

Dear dracoqc68

I have shared your feedback of your neonatal journey with staff and they are very pleased to hear your lovely comments.

The message boards are a way of embracing family integrated care and allow your baby to "chat to you" in a novel way as they achieve milestones in their progress.

We hope you have settled into the new family routine at home and thank you once again for giving such positive feedback

Regards

Una Toland Ward Manager
