"Too much food"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department Daisy Hill Hospital / Stroke Unit Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a service user),

I was admitted to Daisy Hill after a fall at home. Ambulance staff were great and the ambulance journey was very comfortable. I was taken straight from ambulance to A&E.  A&E staff were brilliant and gave me a hospital bed instead of a trolley bed while I was waiting to get a bed in the ward. The staff in the stroke ward are terrific and are ensuring my home care package is suitable  before discharging me as I live alone.

The food in the hospital is good but I feel that a three course meal twice a day is too much and is a waste of NHS funding. The meals are too big and too close together. Very few people would eat 2 x 3 course meals a day at home and a sandwich or small bite at lunch time would be sufficient.

The hospital offers video calls on an iPad which is a fantastic idea to keep in touch with family and friends, I was able to see and speak to my brother who lives in England.

Dear Severitysq84

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience surrounding the clinicians who treated you after your recent fall. That must have been an extremely frightening experience for you.

It appears you were impressed with the staff involved and their ability to make you comfortable during such a traumatic experience must have instilled a confidence in their skills and expertise. I would like to share your compliment with the crew involved however would need a few extra details of the event. If you would be prepared to discuss, please contact me on amanda.sweetlove@nias.hscni.net

I hope you are feeling a great deal better and are recovering well.

Take care

Amanda

Dear severitysq84 - thank you so much for sharing this experience with us. It is great to read how you have found the care in A/E and also in the stroke ward. It is so important that patients have all they need on discharge, particularly as you live alone, it is great that the staff are ensuring that everything you need is in place.

I am glad that you were able to speak to your brother, the Trust has started the Virtual Visiting service because of the restrictions on visiting due to COVID 19, it has been a great success and great that you were able to avail of this service.

I will share your comments regarding the food with our catering team.

I hope you are feeling better

Best wishes

Christine Armstrong
