"Fantastic midwife showing real concern for patients"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Maternity

(as a relative),

I just wanted say how much my wife and I appreciate the hard work of Croydon Hospital's midwifery team, especially Theresa.

We visited Maternity Triage on 14 September at about 9am to have our baby checked out as she is a little on the small side. It was a particularly busy time with quite a few women queuing to be seen.

Theresa gave my wife exemplary care despite difficult circumstances. It was a real struggle to try to get the CTG to work on my wife's belly but she showed patience and perseverance. When it didn't work after a few tries, she asked us to come back a bit later after lunch as she was worried about how hungry my wife might be at that point.

While she was looking after my wife, an angry and abusive patient came into Maternity Triage. She was particularly rude and abusive to staff, who was obviously upset. However, this didn't change her behaviour or professionalism in her treatment of my wife and this earned her our complete respect.

Theresa was still in Maternity Triage when we got back at 3pm. She hadn't taken a lunch break because she was too concerned about the queue of women waiting to be seen. She wanted to do her best to see as many of them as possible before going for a break. We urged her to take a break and she finally relented, but only after ensuring my wife's CTG was successful.

Professional, resilient and caring medical professionals like Theresa are worth their weight in gold. I hope she knows how much we appreciate her and everything she does.
