"No explanation for cancelled endoscopy"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Endoscopy

(as a service user),

I have been waiting months to get an endoscopy, and I finally get an appointment for next Friday - only to get a call yesterday to say they've pulled the appointment, they've cancelled my endoscopy.

No reason, no explanation, no expectation of when I can get another one, or even when I can find out when I can get another one. Just telling me its not going ahead.

This is far from ideal, as I am experiencing symptoms more and more and its impacting my health.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, your frustration in relation to the late cancellation of your endoscopy appointment is completely understandable. I appreciate that this has been compounded by the fact that you were not offered any reason as to why this happened and I apologise unreservedly for the upset this has caused.

By way of background, but by no means an excuse, a recent rise in COVID-19 infections, related hospital admissions and unplanned staffing gaps has meant that the difficult decision has been made to pause elective surgery. The situation is being reviewed daily and I would agree that it is far from ideal. Please be assured that we are doing all we can to maixmise capacity whilst safely managing patients. Please feel free to contact me, either by phone on 01563 826210 or by email linda.russell7@aapct.scot.nhs.uk if you wish to discuss in more detail.

I note that you are experiencing ongoing symptoms, which are impacting on your health and wellbeing, and I would encourage you to contact your general practitioner in the first instance if you feel that your condition is worsening.

With best wishes,

Linda
