"Cancer diagnosis and treatment"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Borders Macmillan Centre Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7) Western General Hospital / Radiotherapy

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in February this year.

I am very grateful to all the staff at NHS Borders and NHS Lothian for their care and treatment. My treatment is now complete.

My diagnosis came as a huge shock and I would like to thank June and Caroline the Specialist Breast Nurses at NHS Borders for their compassion and understanding and helping me come to terms with what was happening. They fully explained what the process would entail.

I had surgery at Borders General Hospital in April which required an overnight stay. The surgery went well and the staff involved were wonderful.

I then went onto have Chemotherapy at the Borders Macmillan Centre. I cannot thank the staff enough there who do a difficult job and appeared to be rushed off their feet but kept it all going despite being very busy.

During this time I had 2 admissions to MAU at the Borders General Hospital due to complications from chemo and again dealt with very professionally by the staff in A&E and on MAU.

I then went on to receive Radiotherapy at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. It was very intense and required to travel there everyday from the Borders which was tiring but again the staff were wonderful taking the time to fully explain the process.

Despite the Pandemic there was no delay in diagnosis and treatment and all the staff involved in my care and treatment were compassionate, professional and very skilled in their jobs.

I would like to thank all involved in my care and treatment over the last few months who are all working under immense pressure.

Thank god for our NHS
