"Ward 303 Aberdeen Royal Infirmary"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Geriatric Assessment

(as a relative),

My mother has been transfered from another ward (where nurses and staff are absolutely amazing, by the way) to ward 303. She's got a lot of issues including renal disfunction, diabetes, high blood pressure, had a liver transplant etc.

Every time she pressed the buzzer to get help - there's nobody there, I was on the phone with her and we waited for 40 minutes (so far, there's still no answer). I tried calling her previous ward where they tried getting a hold of 303, but to no avail, I tried calling it through switchboard as well.

It seems from this experience like ward 303 is a left-for-dead place. When I spoke to them yesterday, nobody could answer why she is there, because she's about to be discharged, feels like I should just go and bail her out of the place that doesn't care at all.

Horrible experience and I hope nobody else has to endure that.

Dear NeO_

I am sorry there has been a delay in our response to your Care Opinion Submission. I will pick this up with the Nurse Manager responsible for this ward area.

Firstly, I would apologise to your mother and you for the lack of compassion and care that has been demonstrated. This falls far below the standards we would expect from our teams and we will pass on your feedback to the area and work hard to address this.

We recognise that when loved ones are in hospital this is a distressing enough time for the patients and their families and to have this stress increased by unanswered call bells and telephones is not acceptable.

I will ask the team to provide an update to you via care opinion as to the changes they have made to ensure we improve our practice.

If you would like to discuss this further with me I am happy to be contacted by telephone. My phone number is 01224 550110.

Kind regards

Catriona
