"Paediatric Ward has been brilliant"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

We came to Daisy Hill Hospital due to my child suffering from bronchiolitis. We started in the Emergency Department - the experience here was grand. The only thing I would suggest is that there was someone there being detained by the police. I feel there should be a separate area for this as there were children around & it made me feel uncomfortable. However, I was soon moved elsewhere which I was happy about. Other than this my Emergency Department experience was good.

After being seen in the Emergency Department, I was quickly admitted in a very smooth process. The staff were all brilliant and kept me calm.

The paediatric ward has been brilliant. I cannot fault a single thing. Every single member of staff has been brilliant. Even though they are so busy they still have time for you.  I would particularly like to mention two members of staff - the sister Ciara and Sinead who was on at night - both of who have been absolutely brilliant.

I don't really have any other improvements to suggest, except maybe apart from letting both partners in instead of just the one (due to COVID regulations) - rather than having to swap out.

Dear coordinationff83 - thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience with your child, both in the Emergency Department and in Daisy Ward. We will share your story with the staff in both areas and they will certainly appreciate your kind words. I can understand that it is difficult to have a child in an area where patients are needing to be supervised, but is reassuring to read that you were moved to another area.

I hope your child is feeling better

Best wishes

Christine Armstrong

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, I will certainly pass on your comments to Ciara and Sinead who will be delighted that you were happy with their care and to the rest of the team. I am sorry ED at that time was upsetting and caused you to be uncomfortable especially when you have a small child who is unwell; I am pleased that you were quickly moved to another area more suitable and settled.

The visiting is challenging for parents and carers and we do appreciate this is not easy. when only one relation can be in at a time but unfortunately we need to follow the infection control guidance at this time.

I wish you and your child well.

Regards

Bernie

Thankyou for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Your positive feedback in relation to your stay on the ward is very much appreciated and will be shared with all staff.

Apologies for your experience in ED which left you feeling uncomfortable especially when you had a child who was unwell, I am glad to see you were quickly moved to a more suitable area.

Unfortunately due to the current situation infection control guidance only allows for one parent to be present, I do understand this can be challenging.

I hope your child is continuing to improve

Regards

Ciara
