My mum was admitted to hospital recently September 2021 after having 2 fits. She has severe Alzheimer's so I was able to accompany her. It was identified that she had low salt and was given essential nutrients to get levels back up. I brought clothes and toiletries to her after 2 days and was advised that I could take her home.
I advised the nurse that I didn't have her wheelchair or slip sheet with me and it was at this time that she suggested hospital transport home which I agreed to as it would be less stressful. I was advised that she would be home the next day but it could be late as there was 7 people in front of her. I have 2 small children at home and by 10. 45pm I called the hospital to find out how late and was advised that she didn't get on the transport as they didn't have correct equipment but she would be home in the morning,
She arrived at 10. 30 am and I had the ramp ready at the front door. I was totally shocked to discover she was in a hospital gown in a bed. With the help of the ambulance crew we moved her into a chair and got her in the house and on her chair, I sent the crew away and was disgusted when I pulled back the sheet as she was covered in waste with a pad shoved between her legs. I then had to strip her and walk her through to the bathroom and clean her up and get her dressed. It made me feel very angry as I specifically told the ambulance crew, the A+E crew and the ward staff that she could bear weight and walk assisted so I would have expected her to come home in a wheelchair full dressed, total laziness in my opinion.
I have since read through the discharge letter and 1 of her weekly tablets is noted down as daily so I can only assume they have taken no notice of the dosette box provided by me with clear instructions
