"Painkillers didn't work"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

Traumatised. Sedation and pain killers didn’t work. Continual pain during my colonoscopy. Asked the doctor to stop, they didn’t. Excruciating pain brought me to tears. Been in my bed since coming home from hospital on Friday. Still in pain. Couldn’t walk on Saturday, stomach pain, fever, felt sick. Can’t eat or sleep. Called my own dr this morning Monday, need to speak to them.

Still need to get 2 polyps removed but it won’t be at this hospital.  I will need general anaesthetic to get this done.

The doctor never even spoke to me after the op.

This was the worst experience of my life.

I am sorry to hear of your experience during your colonoscopy within the Endoscopy Unit at University Hospital Ayr. At all times we aim to deliver excellent care and we are always disappointed when patients experience a level of service which is less than they expected of us.

We would welcome the opportunity to investigate your concerns in more detail and I would be very grateful if you would contact me by email at - Karen.Andrews@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or by phone 01292 17123. We will be happy to look into this further for you.

We would not wish any patient to be concerned or worried about having further treatment in our hospital and therefore please get in touch with me via the above means and we can discuss how best we can offer support during further treatment episodes.

Kind Regards

Karen Andrews, General Manager, Surgical Services
