"Renal Teams and My Transplant"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Renal and Transplant Services (Ward 4a, 4d) University Hospital Monklands / Renal (Ward 1)

(as the patient),

I have had renal problems my whole life and at the age of 40 I received a kidney transplant.

In the year prior to the transplant I received care and attention from Dr Shilliday and renal specialist nurse Lynn at Monklands Hospital; they have a first class approach, and a genuine interest in my care. They were very good with any sensitive matters and also when dealing with my partner (who was my donor).

My kidney transplant was at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow. It was a planned transplant and we were in the Renal ward 4C. The staff in this ward deserve a medal. The care and attention was outstanding; Miss Stevenson performed my transplant (assisted by another Doctor, Steve) and I cannot thank these two doctors enough. And a massive thank you to the whole renal transplant team for the dedication to their patients. The long long hours you work to save people’s lives is really appreciated, thank you.

Dr Johnathan was my doctor post-transplant when I was back at Monklands; another fantastic doctor who goes over and above. Sandra is the specialist nurse; and again another fantastic staff member who helps with all stresses after transplant.

And a big thank you to Karen at Monklands who always greats you with a big smile and puts you at ease straight away when going for routine bloods, what a wee star.

And now, Dr Shah is helping me and providing fantastic care; really knowledgable and keeps me very well informed for the things I need to know.

A final big thank you to everyone in the Renal teams at Monklands and QEU; two fantastic a teams that I trust completely.
