About: Arbroath Infirmary / Minor Injuries NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a service user),

Given an appointment after speaking with NHS 24 today regarding mastitis. 

Did speak with nhs24 yesterday but felt they did not focus on my illness, just that I had a fever and needed a Covid test. 
See by a nurse practitioner at Arbroath Infirmary who was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable!

Thanks for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. I am sorry to learn that you are experiencing symptoms of mastitis, which I understand can be very painful. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I'm glad you were referred by NHS 24 to be seen at Arbroath. However, I am concerned in relation to your previous call to NHS 24 in which you feel our focus was on COVID-19 symptoms. I am sorry this was your experience. We are currently asking patients a number of COVID-19 related questions so that we can effectively manage patients who may have symptoms.

Thank you for sharing your story on care opinion. Feedback helps us to improve our service by knowing what we did well and if there is anything we need to change.

First of all congratulations on the birth of your baby, I’m sure they are a wonderful addition to your family. I’m sorry to hear that you have developed mastitis and were feeling so unwell. Mastitis can be very distressing and painful, and can often cause a fever as you know. It’s now so difficult to determine the cause of fever in patients and as it’s one of the symptoms of COVID 19, patients are often asked to arrange a PCR test to exclude this.

After speaking to you on the telephone we were able to give you an appointment at Arbroath Minor Injuries and Illness unit. I am so pleased to hear that you received a friendly and professional service. Most of our nurses have worked in the service for some time and have undergone further training. They are very knowledgeable and are able to assess and treat a wide variety of injuries and illnesses that patients have.

Hopefully the medication you were given has improved your symptoms and you are now feeling better. I will pass on your very kind comments to all the staff in MIIU in Arbroath, and we all wish you and your family the very best for a happy and healthy future.
