"Breastfeeding support team"

About: Fife Community Services / Breast Feeding Support Service

(as a service user),

After having a traumatic delivery, and having to stay in hospital alone due to covid restrictions, by the time I was able to be discharged I had slept 4 hours in 84 hours. My milk was coming in, I was sleep deprived & struggling to get baby to correctly latch. Kelly, a member of the breastfeeding support team contacted me while in hospital, and was able to offer me advice over the phone and schedule a visit for once I was home. Over the first few weeks of my daughters life, she visited me to assist in adjusting feeding positions and to improve latch due to my daughters high palate. I was made to feel supported in starting my journey, as I was so sure I wanted to breastfeed. Without hands on & face to face help my journey would’ve immensely suffered. Now, 9 months in and still breastfeeding I am so grateful for the help I received, but wish that the service wasn’t spread so thin so that help could be available quicker to women that are in need. My daughter suffers from dairy & soya allergies, so had my journey been cut short due to lack of support, we would’ve had a very difficult time finding a formula that worked for her.

Dear Gemini21

Thank you for taking the time to send feedback on the support the breast feeding Service provided you in the early days of your breastfeeding journey.

Having a new baby can be challenging in normal times but during COVID additionally so, and am pleased to hear that the continued face to face, hands on support you received helped you continue breast feeding your little one. I am sure other Mums will be reassured that with a little help, the difficult first days can be overcome.

We are continually assessing the resources we have available to support new Mums and your feedback reinforces how important it is that all Mums are offered this support as early after birth as possible.

I will pass on your feedback to Kelly who I am sure will be delighted to hear that you have been successful in continuing breastfeeding journey.

All the best and please do not hesitate to contact the team again if you require any further advice as your wee one grows.
