After having a traumatic delivery, and having to stay in hospital alone due to covid restrictions, by the time I was able to be discharged I had slept 4 hours in 84 hours. My milk was coming in, I was sleep deprived & struggling to get baby to correctly latch. Kelly, a member of the breastfeeding support team contacted me while in hospital, and was able to offer me advice over the phone and schedule a visit for once I was home. Over the first few weeks of my daughters life, she visited me to assist in adjusting feeding positions and to improve latch due to my daughters high palate. I was made to feel supported in starting my journey, as I was so sure I wanted to breastfeed. Without hands on & face to face help my journey would’ve immensely suffered. Now, 9 months in and still breastfeeding I am so grateful for the help I received, but wish that the service wasn’t spread so thin so that help could be available quicker to women that are in need. My daughter suffers from dairy & soya allergies, so had my journey been cut short due to lack of support, we would’ve had a very difficult time finding a formula that worked for her.
